Protective Masks for Sports

Sports masks are obviously intended to provide extra protection for athletes who engage in extreme and dangerous sporting events. These types of activities may include but not limited to baseball, fencing or goaltender masks in hockey. These may play an important role in the performance of the athletes because it adds protection to the face as a vulnerable part of the body. Moreover, they have been used by wrestlers in the Mexican or Latin "Lucha libre"-style of wrestling (free wrestling or free fighting). Although they may not describe much of a protection, these are just colourfully designed to evoke the images of animals, gods, ancient heroes and the like.

Fencing would be a very dangerous sport without any protection worn to the body. With the protection being provided in each game, each fighter is given a fencing mask and a protective body suit. These will protect the face and the body from the dangerous attacks of the opponent using the fencing weapons. Meanwhile, the sport of baseball involves a hit and run activity wherein the ball might not be hit by the batter. The ball might slip off the bat and goes right straight to the catcher. Hence, catchers and umpires need to put on the mask specifically designed to fend off potential dangers brought about by the game.

There are more types of masks being used in sports than you can imagine. Each designed to provide the specified protection for the common athlete. As any sport activity needs to be fun and exciting, it must not harm the players involved in it. Although a lot of extreme sporting events like the mixed martial arts competition, where it would not require a protective gear to survive, official sports still require the kind of protection needed by each athlete. This would add a sense of prestige and sportsmanship to the sporting committee and the organisers.
